Fine Dining at Our Healthy Restaurant – Teetotaler

There are a multitude of restaurants in Uganda but there is none like our very own Teetotaler that will soon be opening its doors to the populace sometime this year. Unlike the usual perception, Teetotaler is going healthy with greater emphasis on non alcoholic drinks while considering a moderate nutritionist’s top healthiest alcoholic beverages such as red wine, mulled wine, white wine, wine spritzer, buck’s fizz and craft cider.

You must already be asking yourself what Teetotaler is – it literally means a person who never drinks alcohol. Don’t get it twisted yet however, this could also be someone that has quit alcohol and has embraced healthy living. Our restaurant Teetotaler is taking it a notch further to advocate for non smoking while admitting safe levels of alcohol for healthy reasons in order to promote the quality of life.

Well as many might argue that a Teetotal restaurant might not offer fine dining, we assure you that this will provide a finer and healthy dining experience for many.

This means that in our restaurant, while people will be encouraged to take more of non-alcoholic beverages including water, health juice, coffee, organic tea, non-alcoholic soft drinks and mocktails, there will be a moderate selection of safe levels from the nutritionist’s top healthiest alcoholic beverages.

We are alive to the fact that there are many consequences of long-term alcohol abuse, alcoholism being the most common one hence our promotion of safe levels as well as teetotal. There’s also a growing awareness regarding the dangers of heavy drinking and smoking, including liver disease, risk of weight gain, cardiovascular disease, mental illness, and cancer.

Just like our slogan ‘Dine For Health’, here are Six reasons as to why you should live Teetotal and promote your quality of life:

Improved Sleep

Alcohol can make people sleepy and keep them unconscious for hours but this doesn’t necessarily qualify as good sleep. The amount of time a person spends in slow-wave sleep and REM sleep matters. Slow-wave sleep is associated with deep sleeping and REM sleep is the cycle during which people dream the most. Drinking too much alcohol can cause an imbalance between these two cycles, reducing the latter and prolonging the former. Over time, the lack of sleep is not only unhealthy, but it can lead to irritability and more drinking.

Avoid Dehydration

One of the most common effects of alcohol on the muscles is dehydration. Alcohol is a diuretic, meaning it prevents your body from holding onto water, which can lead to dehydration. When people are focused on drinking, they also usually forget to drink water. Not only can this cause uncomfortable side effects later on, but it can even contribute to back and neck pain.

Maintain ‘Good’ Weight

We have all heard of the term “beer belly,” so you may understand the correlation between alcohol and weight gain. Alcoholic drinks usually contain lots of calories and carbs. Even if you aren’t eating excessively, drinking too much can still lead to significant weight gain. This is partly the reason why people with alcoholism often struggle with high blood pressure and heart problems.

Smooth/Good Looking Skin

It’s well known that the effects of alcohol on the skin are a result of the dehydration it causes. Drinking excessively can leave your skin looking dry, sallow, and wrinkly. Alcohol also depletes the body of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, vitamin B, and zinc, all of which contribute to skin health. By avoiding alcohol, you can also avoid premature aging and wrinkling.

Maintain Healthy Blood Pressure

Factors that affect your blood pressure include lack of physical activity, eating too much sodium, and high cholesterol. Alcoholic drinks often contain lots of calories, carbs, and sodium, which is why drinking affects your blood pressure. While blood pressure levels usually regulate a few hours after a person has had a few drinks, chronic drinking can lead to hypertension.

Improved Performance at Work

Alcohol acts as a sedative in high doses, chronic drinkers or binge drinkers may struggle with cognitive performance at work. While the short-term effects of alcohol can impair concentration and brain function, chronic drinking can also cause a chemical imbalance in the brain. This imbalance can make simple tasks impossible to complete and is usually the source of addiction.

At Inspirations, we pride ourselves in offering the best wellness and healthy life choices to help anyone lead a healthy life and our restaurant, Teetotaler is one step towards ensuring that. Join us on this journey of Health is Wealth when we open our doors to the public later this year.
